  • Although our gluten free Nordic crackers are currently manufactured in the same facilities as our traditional Nordic crackers (that do contain gluten), we do our absolute best to ensure there is no cross-contamination during the baking process by thoroughly and stringently cleaning our purpose-built bakery and the utensils used. This further verified by allergen testing performed to confirm there is no gluten detected.

  • Yes, both of our traditional and gluten free crackers are free from nuts and are ‘school safe’. Our purpose-built bakery is also a nut free zone.

All allergens are highlighted in bold on the nutritional panel on the back of the packaging - we encourage you to read the ingredient list and allergens to ensure they are suitable for any intolerances or allergies.

Be assured our crackers are nut, dairy, egg and yeast free.

  • Yes, our crackers - both of our traditional and gluten free crisp breads - are suitable for people who are vegetarian or vegan.

In fact, our crackers are dairy free and egg free.

  • At Mette is Baking we do use some organic ingredients, but not all, in our products. The ingredients included in our Nordic crackers that are organic are:

    • Quinoa Flakes (gluten free crackers)

    • Salt

    • Gluten Free Flour (gluten free crackers)

  • Mette, Owner and Head Baker, deliberately seeks the finest quality, locally sourced ingredients from Australian suppliers where possible, however sometimes due to seasonal availability and/or the challenge of finding commercial quantities locally, we may need to find ingredients overseas.

As part of the Australian Government's mandatory food labelling requirements - it makes it clearer where the products you purchase are produced, grown, made or packed. From this label, information such as the percentage of ingredients that are sourced from Australia will be easily identified.

  • We are proud to be an Australian-owned family business. Our crackers are handcrafted in small batches and made to order in our purpose-built artisan bakery.

Locally baked in Perth, Western Australia - our crackers are made fresh to order. Our dedicated team steadily hand mixes, rolls and bakes each batch to perfection ensuring a delicious, fresh and crisp cracker like no other.

  • At Mette is Baking we challenge ourselves to reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle items from our bakery.

The outer packaging (card) we use for our Nordic crispbread comes from sustainably managed forests and is processed using the Environmental Management Systems.

Once the packaging is opened and our crackers eaten or stored in an airtight container, the outer card can be recycled - please place in home recycling bins, while the plastic bag can be placed in the soft plastic collection at the supermarket. The brass eyelets can be recycled or safely added to the regular rubbish.

We also try to repurpose the following:

    • Hairnets - used by bakery staff, are separated and donated to the ‘Rare Fruit Club’ and other fruit-growing enthusiasts to protect ripening fruit from fruit flies.

    • Bottle tops are separated and donated to childcare centres for craft projects.

    • Coffee capsules - are separated and recycled through Nespresso’s Capsule Collection Points.

    • Bottles and cans - taken to the Western Australian Containers for Change collection Points.

    • Cardboard tubes - are donated to childcare centres for craft projects.

    • Printer cartridges - are recycled through our local OfficeWorks.

    • Batteries - are recycled through IKEA’s drop off point.

Food waste is a major concern in Australia. Did you know Australia wastes around 7.3 million tonnes of food which equals approximately 300kg per person?

We want to help reduce waste, that is one of the reasons why we only bake to order.

We have solar panels installed on the roof of our artisan bakery that provides us with power and reduces our energy consumption. We use LED globes in our bakery and turn the water heater on only when needed.

We use a dishwasher at the end of each working day and use the washing machine to launder the baker’s aprons and other items used by the bakery at the end of the week.

Our food service and catering packs are packaged in resealable containers and we operate a container return system - we deliver our 2kg packs to restaurants, wineries and other food service providers and collect the empty containers from the previous delivery to take back to the bakery for cleaning and so it can be used again for the next order we pack.

Software to map out our delivery plan is used by our drivers to optimise the route they take. This helps to ensure we spend less time on the road, use less fuel, less wear and tear on our vehicles, which in turn reduces pollution and carbon emissions.

  • The easiest way is to simply use scissors and cut across the top of the pack.

  • Once opened, we recommend storing our Nordic crackers in an airtight container and kept in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Since our crackers contain seeds with a high oil content, they may go rancid if exposed to direct sunlight and heat.

  • The shelf life for our crackers is two months. That’s because our crackers are free from preservatives, additives and colours. At Mette is Baking, we only use the finest quality, wholesome and real ingredients.

We believe our crackers have a two-month shelf life as a Sensory Taste Panel found that the crackers are not as crispy and crunchy after two months as when they are first baked.

  • If you are in food services (a caterer, restaurant, winery, chef or similar) and would like to add our Nordic crackers to your menu, please contact us.
